DANNY J. GIBSON: KANSAS CITY, MO-BASED ARTIST

Born to midwest farmers in a ’70s blizzard and raised in rural areas with access to pop culture and sugary substances, Danny Joe Gibson is an acclaimed artist based out of Kansas City, MO USA. From 2001 – 2011 he produced work as a graphic artisan in the independent music scene, gaining international recognition under studio name DJG Design. Danny has since changed gears to focus on personal art and choice projects.

Chad Thomas Johnston represented Danny in the Kansas City region for his September-November exhibit at the 1819 Central Gallery in the Crossroads Arts District. Together, Chad and Danny assembled a 35-song record featuring unique contributions from many of the musicians for whom Danny created art during his tenure as a graphic designer. The record, titled DJG Was Here, served as a promotional piece for both Gibson’s work and also the 1000-piece exhibit. It remains a free download at NoiseTrade.com.

The gallery show and/or album were written up in the Kansas City Star’s INK Magazine, The Pitch (where Gibson also won a “Best of 2011″ award for the exhibit), NYC’s Felt & Wire, and delivered to ears via morning show Central Standard on Kansas City’s NPR affiliate, KCUR, and also via Jason Barr’s A. D. D. podcast (which recently charted on iTunes’ What’s Hot list, and features in-depth interviews with artists like DJG and Mike Maxwell, and musicians like T. W. Walsh and David Bazan).

In 2009, Chad Thomas Johnston commissioned Danny to create art for his book, The Stained-Glass Kaleidoscope, which Chad’s agent is currently shopping to the publishing market.

JENNIFER LUITWIELER: TULSA, OK-BASED AUTHOR

http://jenniferluitwieler.com/

I play some fun, exhausting roles: wife, mom, sister, daughter, friend, runner, writer, listener, thinker, opinion haver, big-mouth, instigator, competitor (mostly with myself), boot-lover, nap-taker, occasional cusser.

But that’s just sort of what I do. It’s not who I am. I am a child of God. I’m about living abundantly with all the gifts we’ve been given. I’m about people finding that little voice in their heads and hearts that says, “I am worth it because I was made wonderfully.” I’m about rejecting fear and pushing into the promise. I’m also realistic: some days are just harder than others.

My book, Run With Me: An Accidental Runner and the Power of the Poo, is available on amazon.com and b&n.com. Read about how dealing with the mess created by The Dog led to an untangling of a mess in life.

My husband, Kurt, and I are off on a wild adventure with our three children. Every day brings something new. We live in Tulsa, where I shake my fist at the winters and stomp my feet at the summers. I will throw down the smack talk if you disparage my favorite team: The Pittsburgh Steelers, because I was raised in the City of Champions and Bridges, and I’m kind of obnoxious about it.

You can see my work in Tulsa KidsPrime Parents Club, and The Well Written Woman.
