NEW IMAGE JOURNAL BLOG ESSAY, “THE ARMCHAIR ASTRONAUT” + SPOTIFY PLAYLIST

Read my latest IMAGE Journal essay, an adaptation from The Stained-Glass Kaleidoscope titled “The Armchair Astronaut,” here.

In the meantime, I am providing you with a Spotify playlist I assembled as a companion to this essay. It is inspired by my dad, who loves aliens, outer space, and science fiction. I even sent tweets to author Mary Roach in an attempt to squeeze a few song suggestions out of her, considering she wrote the ultimate space travel guide (That’s what it is, right?), Packing for Mars. One of her suggestions was Peter Schilling’s “Major Tom.” Instead of featuring the English language version, however, I decided to take the more pretentious path, and go with the original German version. That is the general approach to the mix as a whole, and to all of my mixes, really. In a nutshell, I love weird! (Also, I do not speak German.)

LISTEN TO MY SPOTIFY PLAYLIST, BOYS GO TO JUPITER TO GET MORE STUPIDER, BELOW:

Boys Go to Jupiter to Get More Stupider is available on Spotify here.

The image of Jupiter above is from the recycling campaign poster I created for my former employer, Allen Press. The company never used my final poster, and I still have no idea why. I think it is far better than most planet-themed recycling posters created by writers who live in Lawrence, Kansas. See the finished poster, which features Jupiter’s planetary brethren, here.
